Anton Bauer VCLX LI 1600Wh

The short version: a 1600Wh block battery that sits on the floor and runs cameras, monitors and big lights all day with no power point in sight.

What you'd use it for

The VCLX LI is the battery you bring when there is no mains power and a lot to run. It is a freestanding floor block, so it lives on the ground or on a cart and feeds the rig by cable, and it has the capacity to keep a camera package and serious lighting going for a full day off grid.

One box gives you 14.4V, 28V or 48V, so the same battery can run a camera, a monitor and a hungry LED fixture at once. There is a USB port too for charging a phone or tablet on set. Compared to the VCLX NM2 it holds over twice the energy and is lighter at the same time.

In real world terms

• How much power? 1600Wh (1642Wh rated), over twice the VCLX NM2.
• Outputs? Two 4 pin XLR at 14.4V (12A each, 24A combined), one 3 pin XLR you can switch between 28V and 48V at 16A, and one USB at 5V 2A. There is also a variable 12 to 17V output setting.
• How much can it push? Up to 24A at 14.4V or 16A at 28V or 48V, with a max load of 850W. Outputs are regulated, so the voltage stays steady as the battery drains.
• How long to charge? About 8 hours from flat to full.
• How heavy? 11.56 kg, about 25.5 lb. 25.5 x 33 x 15.3 cm, with a handle grip built into the case.
• Weather? IP65 rated, with a tough anodised aluminium case and moulded end caps. Passive cooling means no fan, so it runs silently next to sound.
• Working temperature? 0°C to 40°C.
• What's left? A 2.4 inch colour screen shows runtime remaining, charge time or how much power you are drawing right now, plus live diagnostics.

Good to know

• Built in Wi-Fi links to Anton/Bauer fleet management, reporting learned capacity, cycle count, output use, temperature and time stamped fault logs. Great for rental houses tracking a fleet.
• You can also download that data to a USB stick, and firmware updates go in over USB.
• Smart electronic fuses protect the outputs.
