The short version: runs a Panasonic GH series body off a full size V-Mount or Gold Mount battery, with two P-Taps for accessories.

What you'd use it for

GH bodies on gimbals, in studios and on long shoots rarely last the block on internal batteries. This plate runs the camera off a brick through the GH DC connector, with a built in regulator giving the camera the right voltage.

Two P-Taps power a monitor, recorder or transmitter from the same battery.

The only choice is the battery mount. V-Mount is the popular choice, and Gold Mount is there if your batteries already run on Gold Mount. Everything else is the same.

In real world terms
