The short version: holds a sheet of gel or diffusion in front of the light.

What you'd use it for

Cut a piece of gel or diffusion to size, drop it in the frame and slide it on the front of the light. Use it for colour, colour correction or softening. A spare frame means you can keep a couple of looks ready to swap.
