What you'd use it for
The Astra IP 2x1 is the big one: a long rectangular panel putting out 5,500 lux at 3 m, nearly four times the Half. Use it when you need to light a whole set, a stage, a large boardroom or a two person interview in one go, or as a broad source for wide shots. With IP65 weather sealing it also works outdoors at events, sport and on location at night.
Dial the colour from warm tungsten (2,700K) to cool daylight (6,500K), and dim it smoothly from 0 to 100% with no flicker on camera. Add the Snapbag softbox and it becomes a large, wrapping soft source.
In real world terms
-
How bright? 5,500 lux at 3 m. Enough to light a group or fight daylight outdoors.
-
How accurate? CRI 95 in both daylight and tungsten, so skin tones look natural.
-
How tough? IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets. It works from -20°C to 45°C.
-
How heavy? 7.8 kg, and it mounts on a junior pin, so pair it with a stand that has a junior receiver.
-
How long on a battery? It draws 250 W at most. A 90Wh battery gives only about 20 minutes at full brightness, so treat this as a mains light and use batteries for short or dimmed setups.
-
How do I control it? One dial on the back, or Bluetooth from your phone. Add the DMX module to run it from a lighting desk.
-
How long will it last? The LEDs are rated for 50,000+ hours.
