The short version: drop in wire scrims to take the brightness down without changing the colour or the focus.
What you'd use it for
Scrims are wire mesh screens that slide into the front of the light. A single takes a little off, a double takes more, and the half versions only dim half the beam, which is the trick for evening out a light that is too hot on the near side of the set. It is the old school way to fine tune, and it is still the quickest.
