The short version: powers a Nikon body from a full size V-Mount or Gold Mount battery through a dummy battery in the camera.

What you'd use it for

A faux battery slots into the Nikon's own battery compartment and connects to a full size brick, so the camera can stay on all day. It is the usual fit for studio, live and locked off work where internal batteries would need swapping through the day.

The only choice is the battery mount. V-Mount is the popular choice, and Gold Mount is there if your batteries already run on Gold Mount. Everything else is the same.
