What you'd use it for
The Astra IP 1x1 is the all rounder of the range: twice the output of the Half in a square panel that you can still handhold at 4.4 kg. It is the classic key light for interviews and corporate pieces, a strong fill for presenters, and with IP65 weather sealing it goes outside too, lighting a reporter in the rain or an event entrance at night.
Dial the colour from warm tungsten (2,700K) to cool daylight (6,500K) to match the room or the sun, and dim it smoothly from 0 to 100% with no flicker on camera. Add the Snapbag softbox for a big, soft source that flatters faces.
In real world terms
-
How bright? 3,000 lux at 3 m without diffusion. Enough to key an interview from across a meeting room, or to hold its own outdoors.
-
How accurate? CRI 95 in both daylight and tungsten, so skin tones look natural.
-
How tough? IP65 means dust tight and protected against water jets. It works from -20°C to 45°C.
-
How long on a battery? It draws 125 W at most. Divide the battery's Wh by 125: a 90Wh battery gives roughly 40 minutes at full brightness, and much longer dimmed down. For long days, run it on mains or use a dual BP-U bracket.
-
How do I control it? One dial on the back, or Bluetooth from your phone. Add the DMX module to run it from a lighting desk.
-
How long will it last? The LEDs are rated for 50,000+ hours.
