The Canon EOS C50 is Canon's smallest Cinema EOS camera, with a 7K full-frame sensor, internal RAW and a top handle with XLR inputs. It is light enough for a small head and a gimbal, so the accessories that matter are compact support, smart power, monitoring and external ND. Here is how to build a complete C50 kit from the Black Flag Distribution range.
The C50 in brief
The C50 uses a newly developed 7K full-frame sensor with 3:2 open gate, records Cinema RAW Light up to 7K 60p and 4K up to 120p, and has dual base ISO 800 and 6400 with Dual Pixel CMOS AF II. It records to CFexpress Type B and SD, uses the Canon RF mount, and has a full size HDMI (Type A) output plus a DIN timecode port. The body weighs about 670 g (about 1.11 kg with handle, battery and media). It runs on the LP-E6P battery, with USB-C power via Canon's PD-E2 adapter or the DR-E6P coupler. Plan for external ND.
Camera support: Sachtler 75mm heads
With the handle, a zoom, monitor and battery, the C50 sits well on the Sachtler Ace XL Mk II or aktiv6 flowtech75. Step up to the aktiv8 flowtech75 once you add a cine zoom, matte box and FIZ. See our fluid head by payload guide.
Power: Anton Bauer batteries and plates
7K RAW drains an LP-E6P quickly, so plan for external power and run the rig's accessories from one battery.
- Under-camera: the Anton Bauer Titon Base Kit in the Canon LP-E6 fit (SKU 8275-0138) mounts a slim 68Wh battery under the camera and powers it through a regulated LP-E6 dummy battery, with three P-Taps and a USB port for accessories. Canon specifies the LP-E6P for full functionality, and some lenses and modes are limited on older LP-E6 types, so check with us which modes run on a dummy LP-E6 before relying on it.
- On the rig: an Anton Bauer Micro Bracket (Dual P-Tap: 8375-0227 Gold Mount, 8375-0232 V-Mount) with a Titon Micro powers the monitor, transmitter and on-camera light all day.
- USB-C: the C50 takes power over USB-C. Canon specifies its PD-E2 adapter, so confirm compatibility before powering the body from the Anton Bauer P-Tap to USB-C PD Adapter, 100W or a BP-U100's USB-C port.
See our Anton Bauer battery guide for mounts and capacities.
Monitoring and focus: SmallHD, Light Widow and Wooden Camera
The full size HDMI output connects securely to a SmallHD on-camera monitor with waveform, false colour and LUTs for Canon Log 2. Keep it level with the Light Widow Horizon Monitor Mount Kit, mount lens motors with the Light Widow FIZLock, and add a Wooden Camera Unified DSLR Cage (check sizing against the C50) for mounting points.
Wireless video: Teradek
The Teradek Ace 750 4K HDMI TX/RX Kit sends zero-delay video to a director's or focus monitor, and the Teradek Bolt 7 takes HDMI for larger sets and existing Bolt 4K and Bolt 6 receivers.
Lighting and filters: Litepanels, Quasar Science and LEE
The Litepanels Astra IP 1x1 is a reliable bi-colour key, the Gemini 1x1 Soft adds RGBWW colour and gel emulation, and the Quasar Science Rainbow 2 covers practicals and effects. Use lens ND outdoors and LEE Filters CTO, CTB and 216 on the lights.
On set: OpenMoon, Setwear and Bagside
The OpenMoon Crew Gear Box keeps cards, batteries and cables organised (browse OpenMoon), Setwear EZ-Fit gloves protect your hands, and a Bagside Bagstation Mini and Dolly Slider keep the kit mobile.

Frequently asked questions
What battery does the Canon C50 use?
The LP-E6P. For longer days, an Anton Bauer Titon Base Kit in the Canon LP-E6 fit or a Micro Bracket with a Titon Micro adds hours of power for the camera and accessories. Check which modes are supported on a dummy LP-E6 first.
Does the C50 have full size HDMI?
Yes, a full size HDMI Type A output, plus a DIN timecode port.
What tripod head suits the C50?
A Sachtler Ace XL or aktiv6 for a typical build, and an aktiv8 with a cine zoom, matte box and FIZ.
