The Panasonic LUMIX GH7 is a Micro Four Thirds video workhorse with internal ProRes RAW and 32-bit float audio, so it rewards a compact but professional build: light support, smart power, solid monitoring and external ND. Here is how to build a complete GH7 kit from the Black Flag Distribution range.

The GH7 in brief

The GH7 uses a 25.2MP Micro Four Thirds BSI sensor, records ProRes RAW and ProRes 422 HQ internally at up to 5.7K, and adds 32-bit float audio with the optional DMW-XLR2 adapter. It records to CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD (and supports external USB SSDs), runs on the DMW-BLK22 battery, weighs about 721 g body only, and has a full size HDMI (Type A) output plus a USB-C port that accepts power. There is no internal ND.

Camera support: Sachtler Ace and aktiv

A GH7 with a small zoom sits comfortably on the Sachtler Ace M Mk II. Add an SSD, XLR adapter, monitor and microphone and step up to the Ace XL Mk II or the aktiv6 flowtech75. See our fluid head by payload guide.

Rigging: Wooden Camera

With an SSD, XLR adapter and monitor all hanging off one body, a cage earns its place. A Wooden Camera Unified DSLR Cage gives you mounting points and cable relief, and a Wooden Camera Top Handle helps with low mode work. Check cage sizing against your exact build before ordering.

Power: Anton Bauer

The GH7 accepts power through its USB-C port, which opens up the Anton Bauer BP-U100: its 60W bi-directional USB-C PD port can feed the camera while the built-in P-Tap and USB-A run a monitor or transmitter. Confirm Panasonic's USB PD requirements for your configuration first. For a classic rig, a Titon Micro on a plate powers the accessories all day. Our Anton Bauer battery guide covers mounts and capacities.

Monitoring and focus: SmallHD and Light Widow

The full size HDMI output makes for a secure connection to a SmallHD on-camera monitor, with waveform, false colour and LUTs for V-Log. Keep it level with the Light Widow Horizon Monitor Mount Kit, and mount a FIZ motor quickly with the Light Widow FIZLock Universal Motor Mount.

Wireless video: Teradek

The Teradek Ace 750 4K HDMI TX/RX Kit sends zero-delay video from the GH7's HDMI output to a director's monitor or a client screen.

Lighting and filters: Litepanels, Quasar Science and LEE

The Litepanels Astra IP 1x1 is a reliable bi-colour key, the Gemini 1x1 Soft adds RGBWW colour, and the Quasar Science Rainbow 2 is ideal for practicals and colour effects. Plan for lens ND outdoors, and use LEE Filters gels such as CTO, CTB and 216 on the lights.

On set and transport: OpenMoon, Setwear and Bagside

The OpenMoon Crew Gear Box keeps cards, SSDs, batteries and cables organised (browse OpenMoon). Setwear EZ-Fit gloves protect your hands, and the Bagside Dolly Slider gives a light GH7 build smooth moves without a track.

Frequently asked questions

Can I power the GH7 externally?

Yes, the GH7 has a USB-C power input. An Anton Bauer BP-U100 with its 60W USB-C PD port is a compact option, or run accessories from a Titon Micro on the rig. Check Panasonic's USB PD requirements for your setup.

Does the GH7 have built-in ND?

No. Use lens ND from a matte box or screw-in filter, and LEE gels on the lights.

What tripod head suits the GH7?

A Sachtler Ace M for a light build, or an Ace XL or aktiv6 once you add an SSD, XLR adapter and monitor.
